Forgetting Our Past, Failing Our Future: The Teaching of Australian History
This is the text of an address given by Hon Julie Bishop MP, Minister for Education Science and Training, at the Menzies Research Centre dinner to mark the commencement of the 2007 Australian History Summit.
Aboriginal Education: Remote Schools and the Real Economy
The Menzies Research Centre has launched a new paper by the Hon Dr Gary Johns on Aboriginal education in remote communities.
Why our schools are failing
The Menzies Research Centre commissioned Dr Kevin Donnelly to write the monograph Why Our Schools Are Failing. This book has drawn a great deal of attention to the problems facing the education sector in Australia. This book was published in November 2004.
Australia’s education Choices
A fundamental overhaul of school education policy in Australia has been recommended in a Report to the Menzies Research Centre. The Report entitled Australia's Education Choices recommends:
  • an Australia-wide testing program for students
  • the deregulation of government schools and the teaching profession
  • the guaranteed right of parents to choose their preferred school
  • tax deductibility of parents education expenses
  • a new funding formula that emphasises students' educational need.
The Report canvasses many vitally important issues in school education, relating to government funding arrangements, school autonomy, school accountability and much more.
